Woolworths is bolstering its support for those affected by the floods on the Eastern seaboard of Australia by kickstarting additional fundraising for S.T.A.N.D (Support Through Australian Natural Disasters) partner, The Salvation Army, with a $100,000 donation.

Woolworths customers across NSW and ACT have been able to support the work of The Salvation Army by rounding up their purchases to support the charity’s relief efforts for flood-affected communities.

From Wednesday 24 March to Sunday 28 March, customers who spent over $30 in store (or $15 in Woolworths Metro stores) were given the opportunity to round up their purchase to the nearest dollar at self-serve checkouts.

Woolworths Group CEO Brad Banducci said that their thoughts are with all their customers, teams and communities that have been impacted by widespread flooding across NSW.

“In times of crisis it is so important that we act quickly and work better together to support those in our community who are most in need,” Banducci said.

“Through the Woolworths S.T.A.N.D program, we partner with The Salvation Army, Foodbank, Lifeline and Rural Aid to ensure they can perform the vital role of providing practical on ground assistance and emotional support to communities during times of disaster,” he said.

All funds raised have been donated directly to S.T.A.N.D partner, The Salvation Army, to support its work during times of natural disaster.

Over the last year, funds raised from the program helped The Salvation Army to begin supporting those evacuated from their homes, as well as emergency service crews, providing thousands of meals to those impacted.

The Salvation Army’s Secretary for Communications Neil Venables (Lt Col) said that Woolworths’ support helps keep their emergency response capability in a 24/7 state of readiness, allowing them to move quickly to help first responders and communities in times of disaster.

“The leading donation of $100,000 is greatly appreciated, as is the checkout round up in its New South Wales supermarkets,” Venables said.

“We are honoured to stand with Woolies in these trying times for so many fellow Australians.”

Woolworths’ S.T.A.N.D program was specifically created to provide ongoing support to communities impacted by Australian natural disasters.

In partnership with customers last year, the supermarket giant raised $5 million for S.T.A.N.D Charity partners (The Salvation Army, Lifeline, Foodbank and Rural Aid). These funds help those charities to act quickly in times of natural disaster and support the long term rebuilding of the communities impacted.

Customers can also use their Everyday Rewards dollars as a donation to any of Woolworths charity partners, including S.T.A.N.D, in the form of an eGift card.
