Australians are expected to spend a billion dollars worth of Father&
Research by Finder suggests almost half the country (47 per cent) will be sending a pressie the way of the special man in their lives on September 4.
The top three gifts according to the consumer tracker’s national survey of more than a thousand respondents are clothes (nine per cent), a meal at a cafe or restaurant (nine per cent) or something for his car (seven per cent).
The average spend for the occasion is calculated at $108.
Shopping expert Chris Jager says some Aussies, however, plan on loosening the purse strings a tad in order to honour dad this time around.

“Australians are feeling very generous this year to ensure Father’s Day is a special one,” he said.
“Many are still making up for lost time due to the COVID pandemic.”
Alcohol (also seven per cent), homemade meals or gifts (six per cent) and chocolate (four per cent) are other popular father’s day gifts, the survey reveals.
Sons are a little more generous, planning to spend $124 on average compared with $91 by daughters.
Gift givers in NSW and Queensland are likely to part with $113 on average, while those from South Australia are a little thriftier, forking out just $85.
While 12 per cent of respondents said they had no plans to get dad anything, a further 41 per cent said they didn’t have a father or didn’t celebrate the occasion.
